Substitute Custodian

Location: Dauphin County Technical School, Harrisburg, PA

Our custodial team plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the school by ensuring that our facilities are well-kept and functioning smoothly. We’re looking for reliable, hardworking individuals who can step in as needed to support our custodial team, take initiative, work well with others, and help maintain a clean, safe, and positive environment for learning and growth.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous custodial experience a plus
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to push, pull, move, lift, carry, and transfer items up to 50 lbs
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to short-notice assignments

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Grass cutting and snow removal
  • Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting classrooms, offices, hallways, and restrooms
  • Empty trash and recycling bins and ensure proper disposal
  • Set up and break down furniture or equipment for school events or meetings
  • Monitor and report any maintenance or safety issues to the appropriate staff
  • Follow all safety protocols and use cleaning chemicals and equipment properly
  • Respond to urgent cleaning needs or spills in a timely and professional manner
  • Maintain a positive and respectful attitude while working around students and staff
  • Support the custodial team during staff absences or peak service times
