Department Overview

It is the commitment of the DCTS English/Language Arts Department to provide students with instruction and opportunities to develop and grow their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills via a standards- based curriculum. The department strives to deliver effective instruction with emphasis on the development of the soft skills, critical thinking skills, reading comprehension, and writing skills, that will serve students in both career and post-secondary settings. These skills are cultivated through our standards- based curriculum utilizing all forms of traditional and non-traditional, as well as fiction and non-fiction texts. Our students demonstrate their learning and growth through various means of multiple assessments including project based assessments and real world problem solving activities. DCTS ELA instructors endeavor to create dynamic classes that allow students with different learning styles to demonstrate their knowledge acquisition through a variety of methods.
