Department Overview

The science department at Dauphin County Technical School is committed to helping students develop a life-long interest in science through a standards-based curriculum that includes investigation, experimentation, and integration with the student’s career and technical areas. Our goals are to assist students in being able to interpret and apply course concepts to current scientific issues and studies, and to develop an understanding of how science impacts their daily lives.
Based on our department goals, we have developed curriculum to provide:
Hands-on experience conducting scientific experiments

  • Exposure to current/relevant supplementary science materials
  • Strategies to increase literacy in science
  • Instruction designed to incorporate students’ various learning styles, interests, skills, and prior knowledge and experience

A variety of science courses are offered at DCTS. In order to meet the DCTS Graduation requirements, students are required to successfully complete 3 credits of science and pass the Biology Keystone exam and/or course.
